The City of Percé invites you to live the EFFET-MER experience to better understand the effects of climate change on its coastline. The Percé coast is one of the most exposed to storms in the entire Gulf of St. Lawrence. Over the past years, several seaside infrastructures have suffered irreparable damage.
EFFET-MER is a temporary structure consisting of a walking circuit along the damaged section of the boardwalk and next to which two observation towers were erected. These
towers contain impactful visuals that reflect the effects of climate change on the coastline of Percé.
This ephemeral layout represents a transition towards a major rehabilitation and enhancement project (2018 - 2019) regarding the coastline of Percé, which aims to adapt our coast to new climate realities in order to preserve it for future generations.
DID YOU KNOW...
EFFET-MER is designed to be demounted, splitted and relocated; it is therefore 100% recoverable and reusable on another site.
The selected concept results from group discussions and exchanges of ideas involving some twenty citizens from all backgrounds.
Green symbolizes the environmental trend and the brightness of the color reminds us of the northern lights in Gaspésie as well as the luminescent plankton of our seabed.
At night, the towers are illuminated with a soft, diffused light originating from within, somewhat in the way of a lantern.
From the top of the towers, at a height of 12 meters, the extent of the visible damage demonstrates the urgency of action.
Effet-Mer is a project of 400 000 $ financed by the gouvernment of Québec.
